WARDOGS Cheats and Hacks Are Malware: What Those Downloads Really Do

Search for cheats in any new shooter and you will find a wall of downloads promising aimbots, wallhacks, and ESP for exactly the game you just started playing. This page is the anti-guide to all of it: what those downloads actually are, why the smartest players in any community never touch them, and what to do with the energy you were about to spend trying to cheat. This is not a moral lecture — it is a technical breakdown of a scam that is currently running against this game’s players.

What Those Downloads Actually Are

Community reporters examining cheat offers for this game have described on the order of 14 separate GitHub repositories hosting supposed WARDOGS cheat tools — and the pattern across them is the same. The repos borrow legitimacy signals: README files with screenshots, release pages with compiled binaries, and, most tellingly, star counts that make the project look popular and vetted. Stars can be bought in bulk for pocket change. A four-digit star count on a fresh repository hosting a compiled binary you cannot audit is not social proof. It is the lure.

You will notice this page never names those repositories or links to cheat sites. That is deliberate. Naming them drives traffic to the malware, and the specific names change weekly anyway — the scam is a pattern, not a list.

What is actually inside these downloads, based on how this class of scam works:

• Infostealers — malware that sweeps saved browser passwords, cookies, and session tokens the moment you run it. Your Steam session, email, and Discord log in as the attacker without them ever seeing your password.
• Fake “loaders” — files that demand you disable your antivirus to run. Real software does not need your protection turned off. That instruction exists because the file is doing something your antivirus would correctly block.
• Nothing at all — a nontrivial share of cheat downloads are simply empty payloads. The scam was the download click and the ad impressions along the way.

The Ban Risk: Easy Anti-Cheat Is Kernel-Level

2. Saved browser credentials, which unlock email, and email unlocks everything else via password resets.
3. Discord tokens, which get used to spam the scam onward into servers you are in — which is exactly how these “cheat” links keep circulating in game communities with a veneer of familiarity.

That propagation loop is why the repo count keeps growing: each infected player becomes a distribution channel. If a friend shares a cheat link in a group chat, the link may literally be coming from their infected machine. Verify before you click.

Free Alternatives That Actually Improve Your Win Rate

Every competitive advantage a cheat promises has a legitimate version that costs nothing:

• Fix your settings first. A large fraction of “this game feels unfair” is input lag, poor FOV choices, and unstable frametime. Work through our PC settings priority list — it is the cheapest aim improvement that exists.

If You Already Ran One of These Files

Do this in order, today, not tomorrow:

3. Change passwords from a different, clean device, starting with email, then Steam, then everything financial.
4. Re-enable and re-secure two-factor authentication, and sign out of all sessions on Steam and Discord so stolen tokens die.
5. Delete the cheat file permanently. There is no version of “I will just try it once” that ends well — the file’s entire purpose was that one run.
